Environmental & Air Quality Services

Stack Emission Analysis

Stacks from boilers, emissions from generators and several other industrial specific processes emit contaminants such as carbon monoxide (CO), Sulphur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter, dusts, and other gases into the environment. These emissions compromise the air quality and potentially have a detrimental health effect and as such, the emissions are regulated. For public and workers’ safety, the Kenya’s regulatory body, National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), requires periodic measurement of the levels of these pollutants to ensure they are below the set limits.

CSI International Ltd is designated by NEMA to carry out stack emission assessment of all kinds of stacks for all industries countrywide. CSI has the technical and human resource capacity to offer stack testing services for both small and large sites at affordable costs that is fully compliant with the needs of the client. In cases of non-conformance, that is the emission levels exceed the set limits, our technical and consultancy team can propose abatement procedures on a case-by-case basis depending on the pollutants in consideration.

Indoor and Ambient Air Quality Monitoring

CSI International Limited is National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) designated and accredited by Kenya National Accreditation Services (KENAS) to carry out air quality monitoring according to local Department of Occupational and Health Services (DOSHS) and international standards. Emissions from Boilers, generators, Incinerators, Burners, Asphalt Plants, Sulphonation Plants, and several other industrial processes emit pollutants that are either gaseous or particulates into the environment.

These emissions compromise the air quality, potentially have detrimental health effects, and are regulated both locally and internationally.

CSI has both the technical and instrumental capability to carry out such assessments as per the regulatory requirements. For public and workers' safety, the regulatory bodies, NEMA and DOSHS, require periodic measurement of these pollutants' levels to ensure they are below the set limits. In cases of non-conformance, that is, the emission levels exceed the set limits. Our technical and consultancy team can propose abatement procedures on a case-by-case basing depending on the pollutants in consideration.

Air Dispersion Modelling

We provide advanced simulations of how pollutants disperse in the atmosphere. This scientific approach helps industries, developers, and regulators predict the environmental and health impact of emissions from various sources, including factories, vehicles, and construction activities. The primary objective of this service is to predict pollutant concentrations in the surrounding environment—whether from fixed sources like chimneys, moving sources like traffic, or area sources such as construction sites. Our modelling also supports Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) by offering accurate, data-driven projections to evaluate potential risks before projects begin. Additionally, it ensures that proposed and ongoing developments comply with air quality regulations set by NEMA and international standards. Ultimately, our modelling results guide effective planning and the implementation of pollution mitigation strategies, helping clients protect public health and maintain regulatory compliance.

Noise Survey

Our Noise Survey service involves the systematic measurement and analysis of noise levels from industrial, construction, and urban environments. The goal is to help organizations comply with regulatory requirements and protect both human health and environmental quality. Through these surveys, we ensure compliance with Kenyan environmental and occupational health standards such as those set by National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) and Department of Occupational and Health Services (DOSHS), while also identifying noise hotspots and assessing exposure levels that may pose risks to workers and surrounding communities. In addition, it supports Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and health and safety audits by providing accurate, site-specific data. Based on the findings, we recommend practical mitigation strategies aimed at reducing harmful noise exposure and promoting a safer, more sustainable environment.

Facilitation of Affluent Discharge and Emission License

Effluent discharge is any liquid waste discharged by industry, agricultural activities, business entities and residences into the public sewers or the environment. As such, these effluents most often are laden with a broad spectrum of pollutants in varying concentrations. A discharge consent is a legal document issued by NEMA detailing the conditions acceptable for the effluent released into the sewer line or the environment.

CSI International Ltd is a leading supplier of effluent analysis services in the country and assists its clients to meet all of the requirements prescribed in the NEMA schedules for effluent discharge. Our technical staff is professional, well trained and experienced in the latest techniques and operating procedures to guarantee that your results are accurate and satisfy all requirements.

Our effluent discharge analysis includes but are not limited to: Suspended Solids, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), pH & Electrical Conductivity, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Metals such as As, Cd, Cu, Cr, Hg, Se, Zn, Ni, Pb, Fe, and Na, Ammonia, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Alkalinity, Sulphate, Fat, Oil and Grease, organic micro-pollutants such as Pesticides, Herbicides, pharmaceutical compounds and Hydrocarbon analysis, E. coli, Total Coliforms and TVCs (Total Viable Coliforms). Call today to see how we can help you.

Environmental Audit

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a tool designed to identify and predict the implications of a project or an organization’s activities on the bio-geophysical environment and on human health prior to execution. EIA relays information about the impact and process alternatives, while also providing solutions to mitigate potential negative effects on man and the environment. An Environmental Audit (EA) on the other hand is a management tool used by the industry to evaluate its environmental performance. These assessments guarantee to the clients that their proposed projects or processes are compliant with regulatory requirements and are crucial during the licensing and permitting phase of proposed projects.

CSI International has NEMA registered and experienced environmental audit experts and consultants. Our team offers impact assessments and technical reports, and advice on environmental issues ranging from license acquisition, project planning, monitoring, and evaluation. Our experts employ the Best Available Techniques, Best Environmental Practice, international standards and the scientific method to predict the impacts from proposed projects or organization processes on the environment. Our consultants are up to date with regulatory changes and requirements and are best suited to meet client needs and expectations.
